Follo clings, stratifying, on the slopes of the hills that dominate the river: better to visit it by car. The municipality consists of nine hamlets, namely Bastremoli, Carnea, Follo Alto, Piana Battolla, Piano di Follo, Sorbolo, Tivegna, Val Durasca and Via Romana. To facilitate, the premises tend to shorten directly in Follo Alto, Piano di Follo, which is none other than the most developed town, deployed on the main road axis (the Provincial Road 10), and Piana Batolla. All the surrounding areas are part of the Regional Natural Park of Montemarcello-Magra.

In Pian di Follo, it would be good to remember how it connected that part of Via Frangicena coming from Caprigliola and Santo Stefano Magra with the Via Romea towards the less beaten paths to Beverino, and the coast, through the Passo del Bracco, and we want to know why, still, in the villages of the stands is born, grows and is preserved the rurality of workers and flavors otherwise able to get lost, including parades of tractors and cattle fairs. The hamlet of Follo Alto is in turn composed of various towns, La Villa, Bondano, Fossotano and Castello. On a high, very suggestive point, the parish church of San Leonardo Abate seems to invite you to reach it.

Events and Places of interest

Going up the road to Follo Alto, we meet the Church of San Martino di Durasca, built according to the tradition of the French pilgrims, as well as faithful to an early medieval canon, and surrounded by meadows and green uncultivated. A previous structure provides the perimeter walls, a part of the two ancient naves, the facade with the portal architrave and the massive square bell tower.

Totally opposite, the colorful – so much so as to appear a toyChurch of San Lorenzo di Tivegna, exactly in the center of the districts and in the homonymous hamlet of Follo, is far from the panoramic roads, hosting an important painting of 1665, attributed to Casoni. In Tivegna we also find the Oratory of the Madonna del Carmine and the Church of the Madonna dell’Orto.

Saint Mary Magdalene, on 22 July, and Saint Leonardo, on 6 November. The annual “Wine Festival”, organized by the Pro Loco of Tivegna, involves dances, art exhibitions and the inevitable tastings the first week of September.
